Process on to appoint DMU VC: Minister

Education minister Th Basantakumar has informed that the government has initiated process to appoint a regular vice chancellor of DM University, on Thursday.
Responding to a calling attention motion by opposition MLA Surjakumar on absence of regular VC of the University and regular staff and alleged irregularities in conduct of exam in MTU, minister Basantakumar stated that DM University which receives funding under the UGC Act of 1965 is managed by the vice chancellor, registrar, and other officials in accordance with the DM University Act along with informing that appointment of the vice chancellor is formalised by the Governor based on recommendation of a three-member committee comprising nominees of the chancellor, UGC and DMU syndicate.
The notice for the VC's appointment was issued on July 10, 2024, with the application deadline set for August 9, 2024.Additionally, the minister informed that results of the DPC conducted in 2021 were declared on July 18, 2024 followed by recruitment of 121 assistant professors and 155 non-teaching staff, which seem to have effectively addressed staff shortages at DM University.
The NAAC accreditation process for Dhana-manjuri University has been initiated, and some constituent colleges, including DM College of Science, are already NAAC accredited with a CGPA of 2.8.Exams delayed due to the unrest situation will be processed as soon as possible, in consultation with the government, he said, adding that regular registrar and other staff are expected to join the university by August 5, 2024.Conceding anomalies in declaration of result for assistant professors of Physics and Botany departments, Basanta informed that a high-level committee has been constituted in consultation with the chancellor, to investigate the issue.
Regarding Manipur Technical University, minister Basantakumar informed that the university currently does not have a vice chancellor due to a pending court case and assured appointment of regular vice chancellor as and when the case is settled, in accordance with the MTU Act.
He also mentioned that exams for the academic year were conducted in February 2024 through both offline and online modes, and the academic session is progressing smoothly.
He also assured that the state government is making every effort to improve DM University and Manipur Technical University and committed to ensuring timely promotions and addressing all pending issues to enhance the education sector.
