NCD screening under health scheme to begin in Oct

Imphal, September 29 2021: Screening for Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) under the recently launched 'Health for All' scheme will begin from early October, said health services director Dr K Rajo.

He was attending the observance of World Health Day 2021 organised under the theme 'Use heart to connect every heart' by National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke, National Health Mission at Sangai Hotel, Nagamapal here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajo emphasised on the importance of keeping heart healthy by conducting routine check-up and maintaining healthy diets while informing that 17 million people die every day across the globe due to cardiovascular diseases.

Among the NCD, heart disease has highest prevalence.

On the other hand, prevalence of hypertension is also high in the state.

As per National Health Family Survey, 26 per cent of women and 37 per cent of men in the age group of 15-45 years have hypertension.

At the same time, India is known as diabetic country of the world.

As per ICMR and WHO, 60.per cent of diabetic patients die prematurely and' the government is taking up necessary initiatives to prevent it.

Informing about the NCD screening under Health for All scheme, which will begin from early October in all the 16 districts of the state, Dr Rajo said that the screening will be caarried out through door to door visit.

Health for All is the second largest health sch erne of the state next to CMHT.

The department has identified 118 villages for launching the scheme, under which healthcare professionals will identify people with NCD, provide regular medications and physiotherapy facilities.

It will be implemented through ASHA workers and ANMsv whose reports will be linked further with CHCs, district hospitals, RIMS, JNIMS and otlier tertiary hospitals.

Specialist doctors posted in each district will provide tele-consultation through tele-cardiology health app and e-Sanjeevani platform.

The scheme will also cover post Covid patients, he said, while urging for public support in order to make the scheme successful.

National Health Mission director Dr N Shyamjai said that the government has started providing free treatment for congenital heart disease, and urged the public to contact the department if they have children with the said heart condition.

Manipur Heart Foundation president Dr L Shyamkishore also attended the event as guest of honour.

On the other hand, Health and Wellness Centre, Chingkhu Sambei observed World Heart Day on Wednesday.

Haraorou Tangkham GP Pradhan L Kullachan dra, and district mission director and CMO Imphal East Dr Indira attended the observance as chief guest and president respectively.

Manipur Heart Care Society president Dr Ksh Kala, DPM district health society Imphal East H Rishikesh and NCD Cell Imphal East SNO Dr L Bikram were also present as guests of honour.

Speaking as resource person, Dr Kala informed the gathering that death rate from heart disease has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic and the main reason behind the spike is delay in early diagnosis leading to belated treatment.

He stressed the need for early intervention policy to save lives.
