Imphal, April 29 2025: Security forces and state police on Monday apprehended two individuals linked with different UG organisations and involved in extortion activities in separate operations in Jiribam and Imphal West districts.

In an operation, an active member of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), identified as Sairem Basanta Singh alias Bomcha alias Angamba (39), was arrested from Jiribam Bazar under Jiribam police station.

Basanta, a resident of Lakhipur Ward No 8, was reportedly involved in extortion activities.

In another operation in Imphal West, police arrested Hijam Ngamba Meetei (24) of Sagolband Thangjam Leirak, a cadre of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro), from Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai, Yambem Leirak under Singjamei PS.

He was also allegedly involved in extorting money from local doctors and businessmen.

Police recovered one magazine with two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a pistol, two mobile handsets, and a two-wheeler from his possession.
