Bishnupur, May 25 2025: A day-long state-level farmers' convention was held at the Ima Kabokhong Lairembi community hall, Awangjiri under Konthoujam assembly constituency, with the aim of addressing challenges faced by the farming community and boosting agricultural productivity.

The convention organised by Manipur, Pradesh Kisan Congress was attended by MPCC president K Meghachandra Singh, All India Kisan Congress chairman and leader of opposition in the Punjab state assembly MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, All India Kisan Congress vice chairman (organisation) .

Akhilesh Sukhla, national coordinator and Manipur iri-charge of the All India Kisan Congress Rizwan Raza, Kisan Congress Punjab PCC chairman Kiranjit Singh Sindhu, and MPCC Kisan Congress chairman Laishram Nandq along with ex-MPs, ex-MLAs and MPCC office bearers.

Speaking at the event, Meghachandra criticised the central government for neglecting the welfare of farmers.

He alleged that since 2022, the BJP-led government at the Centre has been curtailing various farmer welfare schemes and depriving the farming community of their rightful entitlements.

He further stated that people across the country are suffering under the "double engine" government.

Echoing, similar sentiments, Punjab MLA Sukhpal Khaira accused the government of India of failing to introduce effective measures or policies to resolve the Ongoing crisis in Manipur.

He warned that if the BJP continues to rule the country, India would remain in a state of decline.

As part of the programme, fertilizers were distributed to around 1500 farmers of Konthoujam assembly constituency.
