AR conducts wreath laying ceremony

Imphal, January 11 2025:
Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony for major (late) Santosh Kumar Agnihotri, who made the supreme sacrifice on January 11, 1998 at Jiribam.
According to a press release issued by PRO, IGAR (S), Major Santosh Kumar Agnihotri, while traveling with his family to battalion headquarters in Jiribam, encountered insurgents extorting money from the locals.
When he confronted them, his vehicle was fired upon, and despite his valiant efforts, major Santosh was overpowered and martyred.
His family and escort were evacuated to 160 Military Hospital, Assam.
The release further informed that the ceremony began with laying of wreath by the commandant of the unit, who shared the story of the braveheart's sacrifice to instil pride and honour in the force.
A total of four officers, 10 junior commissioned officers, and 132 other ranks of the battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths and honouring major Agnihotri with a Guard of Honour.
The commandant also interacted with the family of the braveheart to express gratitude for his selfless service to the nation and assured them of continued support, it added.
