Under the initiative of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman M Asnikumar Singh, the Fishery Department in collaboration with SINHEIBI Development Organisation and Champu Khangpok Floating Village Conservation & Management Committee, Loktak Lake organised a Fisherman Card enrolment programme at Champu Khangpok as part of the National Fisheries Digital Platform under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kiran Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY).
Champu Khangpok in Loktak Lake is India's largest and only natural floating village.
Home to a vibrant community of fisher folk, it represents a unique way of life, deeply intertwined with the lake's ecosystem.
The PM-MKSSY aims to revolutionise.the fisheries sector through targeted interventions.
The fisherman card facilitates access to financing for small and micro-enterprises, enabling fisher folk to invest in sustainable aquaculture and boost their livelihoods.
Beneficiaries also receive one-time incentives to purchase aquaculture insurance, providing a much-needed safety net against natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and other challenges.
The scheme promotes the adoption of fish and fishery product safety measures, ensuring higher returns and sustainable sector growth.
