Forest Dept, Sadim Pukhri VA rescue Chinese pangolin

In an outstanding display of community spirit and conservation efforts, a Chinese pangolin (Manis pentadactyla) was rescued and released back to its natural habitat in a collaborative effort of Senapati Forest Department and Sadim Pukhri Village Authority.
After a distress call was received from a farmer named Joseph Kaba of Sadim Maling-li village, Senapati- a small hamlet under the jurisdiction of Sadim Pukhri village, about a pangolin displaced from its natural habitat, Senapati Forest Department mobilised a team under Senapati veterinary officer Dr Chang L to assess the health, injuries and pathogens of concern of the said animal.
Upon verification by the veterinary doctor that there is no underlying health condition, the animal was released back in the wild as prescribed under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.Sadim Malingli village chairman Joseph Kaba emphasised on importance of preventing human-wildlife conflict and the need for compassion for the voiceless creatures as the Forest department urged the public to join hands in conservation efforts and to preserve natural resources for the future generations.
The successful rescue and release operation testifies Sadim Pukhri village's dedication to conservation and protection of biodiversity.
The village community has undertaken various conservation initiatives including, forest area around Sgdim Lizai Lake for more than a decade.
Forest protection efforts are led by students and youth under the Sadim Lizai Students & Youth Association'(SLSYA), in collaboration with the Sadim Pukhri Village Authority.
