Will assist vax drive in remote areas: IMA

Imphal, September 29 2021: The doctor members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) will extend all possible assistance to the state government in carrying out Covid-19 vaccination drive in remote hill areas of the state, said IMA national president Dr J A Jayalal.

Dr Jayalal, who arrived here with IMA secretary general Dr Jayes Lele, told media persons at IMA House, Lamphelpat on Wednesday that the main aim of visit tour is to appreciate and honour the doctors of Manipur for their dedication: to duty during the battle against Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier in the day, they met Governor La Ganesan and urged him to declare doctors who had died in the fight against the pandemic as nation's 'martyrs' and provide them befitting compensation, Dr Jayalal said, while adding that the Governor has also given assurance of doing whafevef he could from his side.

The IMA national president continued that in the same manner in which soldiers sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War, doctors have also made supreme sacrifice in saving billions of lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vaccination has a very important role to play in the battle against Covid-19 .

The rate of vaccination is still very low in far-off tribal areas and the matter was discussed with the Governor.

As such, IMA is ready to extend all the support it could to address this issue.

With the state government providing free vaccine, IMA HQ will also release some funds to take up vaccination programme in such far flung areas, he assured.

Dr Jayalal also stated that he urged the Governor to increase the number of niedical colleges in the state and ease some restrictions for giving medical aid in borders areas especially for Myammarese nationals.

While confiding that the ministry concerned has been proposed to encourage medical tourism in the state, he further conveyed that during the meeting with the Governor the latter was informed about IMA's readiness to work for holistic development of the people.
