Sekmai villagers protest SoO, designated camp

Imphal, July 29 2025:
Demanding abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) signed with Kuki militants, large numbers of villagers of Sekmai assembly constituency staged sit-in protest at Senjam Chirang community hall on Tuesday.
The protest jointly organised by Royal United Clubs' Organisation (RUCO) and villagers and Meira Paibi groups of five Gram Panchayats under Sekmai AC also demanded that no designated camp for Kuki militants should be established near Meetei villages and no Meetei village volunteer arrested.
Notably, RUCO had organised a protest cum public meet at Phayeng village on July 20 and a resolution taken at the meet to launch sit-in-protest from July 29 .
A copy of the resolution was also submitted to Governor through the Imphal West DC the same day.
Protestors held placards inscribed with slogans 'No designated camp of Kuki militants near Meetei villages', 'Abrogate SoO with Kuki militants immediately', 'No arrest of Meetei village volunteers' and 'No Kuki designated camp in reserved forest area and highway' .
Senjam Chirang Meira Paibi secretary Heikham Amrabati told media persons that the government's plan to set up designated camps of Kuki militants near Meetei villages like Senjam Chirang, Koutruk and nearby the National Sports University complex is unacceptable.
Stating that the National Sports University was constructed after villagers donated land she cautioned that the government plan to set up SoO designated camp close to the varsity complex might trigger a bigger conflict, and urged the government to shelve the plan immediately.
