Training on bamboo plantation concludes

Under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council (NEC), North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) and Athia Integrated Rural Development Organisation (AIRDO) successfully concluded a three-day training programme on bamboo nursery raising and commercial plantation at Khamasom Phungdhar in Ukhrul district on Friday.
A release issued by AIRDO informed that the event aimed to equip local farmers and artisans with necessary skills and knowledge for effective bamboo cultivation and commercial exploitation.
On the third and concluding day of the training programme, a held practical trip was conducted by Maisui Ramrak, an artisan's held and farm expert.
Although the programme expected 50 benehciaries, it was attended by 120 beneficiaries, including participants from nearby villages and poppy-affected villages of KamjOng district.
Villagers already resolved in 2023 to adopt alternative plants like avocado, coffee, and bamboo as part of the war against drugs carried out by the state government under the guidance of CM N Biren, the release recalled, while conveying that the villagers need help from authorities concerned for the successful implementation of these initiatives to combat poppy cultivation.
AIRDO chairman Awungshi Philip Soso noted that the event marked a significant milestone in promoting bamboo cultivation in the region.
