Kakching, May 28 2024:
Due to incessant
rainfall in the past 24 hours,
water level of Sekmai river in
Kakching district is flowing
above the danger level while
iron chains of two out of four
shutters of Sekmai barrage
at Keirak snapped leaving
two shutters stuck.
As the two shutters remained stuck, water level in
upstream of Sekmai barrage
rose sharply thereby creating fear of an artificial flood.
It is said that iron chains of
Sekmai barrage shutters
snapped when caretakers
tried to lift the shutters
to release access water on
Monday evening.
The matter
was immediately informed
to relevant officer but unable to repair in the night.
Fortunately, the shutters
were lifted manually as locals joined hands in making the flood gates operational on Tuesday morning.
