Imphal, May 25 2025:
Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation (CPI/ML-E) has demanded withdrawal of the President's Rule and formation of a new government in the state, considering that no significant changes have been witnessed since the past few months.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, Party's Central Committee member Bibek Das said that he had visited the regions affected by the conflict over the past two years, and urged the central government to come up with a solution to put an end to the unrest situation.
Stating that the President's Rule is proof of the BJP's government inability to maintain peace in Manipur, he said that even now, there is no free movement on the national highways.
The situation seems as if the people are living inside the jail, he remarked, adding that many displaced people have yet to return to their homes.
Recalling PM Modi's statements at the just-ended Rising North East Investment Summit that the country cannot progress without developing the north east, Bibek questioned how development would be possible when there is no peace in the region.
Thus, he urged for announcing a specific package for the displaced people staying in relief camps.
Moreover, as the President's Rule has been unable to bring any changes to the situation in the state, it needs to be withdrawn and fresh election conducted to form a democratic government in the state, he stated.
Bibek also extended support to the agitations launched by civil societies against the May 20 (Gwaltabi) incident where the integrity of Manipur was challenged.
