Kangpokpi, June 19 2024:
The chief of Kharam Thadoi and his son from the Aimol tribe were allegedly abducted at Kangpokpi town on Wednesday.
The duo, identified as Memory Chongthu and his son Thangreng, was reportedly abducted at gunpoint by armed miscreants from near the Zonal Education Officer's office in Kangpokpi Town.
Sources said that the chief and his son's mobile phone and vehicle key were snatched away by the abductors at the spot.
Fortunately, the two were freed a few hours later near Bongmoul village of Champhai Sub Division, a few kilometres away from Kangpokpi district headquarters towards Imphal.
Though the exact motive behind the abduction remains unclear, sources suggest that it might be linked to on-going land disputes.
