Churachandpur, February 14 2023: A team of Churachandpur police station on Tuesday arrested one alleged extortionist identified as Seiminlal Haokip (34), son of Seimang Haokip of Laijang village, Churachandpur, who reportedly looted Rs 32,000 from a truck driver on Monday.

According to police report, the victim truck driver K Lalmani Singh (44), son of K Tilok Singh of Zou Veng, Churachandpur filed a complaint at Churachandpur police station on Monday that he was looted of Rs 32,000 by an extortionist.

The victim informed that when he was on his way to Imphal driving a truck (MN06T-1820), one unknown person stopped his vehicle at Boljol village in Churachandpur around 11:45 am and aggressively demanded to pay up a sum of Rs 5000 as tax.

Out of fear, he took out his wallet to pay the amount, but the unknown person suddenly snatched his wallet and took away all his money amounting to Rs 32,000 and left the spot in a numberless black bullet motorcycle towards Tuibuong side.

The victim also mentioned that he turned his vehicle around and followed the extortionist and saw the black bullet motorcycle parked in front of a hotel at Tuibuong.

He then entered the hotel and confronted the extortionist, after which, the person took him on his motorcycle towards an unknown destination on the pretext of giving him a yearly tax slip and left him behind in an open ground and escaped.

In the course of investigation, the extortionist was identified as Seiminlal Haokip through various sources.

Accordingly, a team of Churachandpur police station raided the residence of the accused in the early hours of Tuesday but he was not found at home and his family members informed that he had not returned for the last two-three days.

The police team then made enquiries of whereabouts of the accused and finally, his location was zeroed in to Pangzawl area, Churachandpur.

Immediately, a team led by case IO SI Haolensang Singson rushed to Pangzawl area and arrested the accused at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.

A black bullet motorcycle without registration number and Rs 22,000 were also seized from his possession.
