Punish cops for harassing children: Student bodies

Denouncing alleged police excesses and harassment of two children in an incident that occurred at Keishampat Junction on June 25, five student bodies have asked the Commission for Child Rights Manipur to probe the matter and punish the police personnel involved in the incident.
A release jointly issued by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak, Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) and another students' body denounced the harassment of the two students in school uniforms by police while trying to arrest their father in their presence.
The incident causing mental trauma to the two children is unfortunate, the release condemned, while appealing not to repeat such acts in the future.
Recalling that a suo moto case has been registered by Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Right (MCP-CR) regarding the matter, the release expressed hope that a thorough investigation will be carried out considering the sentiments of the people.
