Senapati, June 19 2024:
Naga Women's Union (NWU) has condemned an incident at Makhan Khullen in Senapati district, where modesty of a minor was outraged by an elderly person.
In its condemnation, NWU stated that such incidents not only flagrantly violate the values of integrity, respect, and accountability that women strive to uphold within the community but are also utterly unethical meriting unequivocal condemnation.
"This incident is a stark reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard the most vulnerable members of society - children.
It highlights the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to protect children.
It is imperative that communities stand united against any form of abuse and work together to ensure children are protected and their well-being prioritised, so every child can grow up free from fear and harm," the Union said.
NWU called upon the authorities to act swiftly and decisively to ensure justice is served.
The individual responsible for such a reprehensible act must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
It is also essential to ensure that corrective measures taken are not merely reactive but are part of a sustained effort to foster a culture of respect, integrity, and responsibility.
"It is crucial that justice is not only done but is seen to be done, to reinforce the community's commitment to upholding the safety and rights of every child.
Through collective action and solidarity, we contribute to healing and restoring a sense of safety and trust," the union stated.
NWU also shared the plight of the victim and her family, and assured that the Union stand with them in unity and commit to supporting them through this strenuous time.
