Imphal, February 11 2025:
A sit-in-protest was staged on Tuesday at Khewa Thongkhong under Porompat police station in Imphal East district against the killing of Laishram Malemnganba of Moirangkampu Awang Leikai by unidentified armed persons on Monday morning.
The protest was jointly organised by Moirangkampu United Club and 'JAC against the brutal killing of Malemnganba' .
JAC convener Moirangthem Surkumar told media persons on the sidelines of the protest that 15-year-old Malemnganba was gunned down by four armed persons at about 12 noon Monday while Malemnganba's cousin escaped miraculously from the armed persons who came in a Maruti Swift car.
Condemning the brutal killing of the innocent teenager, local clubs and Meira Paibis of different localities of Moirangkampu area came out and staged the protest, he said.
"It is very unfortunate that unidentified armed persons are pointing their weapons to civilians," Surkumar rued.
"Amidst the ongoing conflict, different localities have been extending help to those defending the fringe villages but targeting civilians has created panic and confusion among the people as to who the enemy is," he expressed, while strongly condemning the killing of the young boy without any reason.
"Even if Malemnganba had committed any mistakes or crimes, local clubs and Meira Paibis could have been approached to provide an opportunity for rectification," he stated.
Surkumar also mentioned that the Joint Action Committee (JAC) will not Claim Malemnganba's body unless those involved in the killing are arrested, adding that the JAC will take further course of action after convening a meeting with local clubs and Meira Paibis.
