Imphal, June 01 2025:
The state government has extended the summer holidays for all government, government aided and private schools in Imphal East, Imphal West and Senapati sub-division of Senapati district until further orders in view of the incessant rainfall and flood prevailing in the districts.
An order issued by secretary (education-S) Naorem Praveen on Sunday stated that the deputy commissioners (DCs) of the districts have been delegated the authority to decide whether schools under their respective jurisdiction should remain closed or opened based on the daily assessment of the situation under intimation to the government.
The Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) of the districts or zones have been instructed to submit reports to the government on a daily basis in consultation with the DCs concerned.
Control Rooms have also been activated at the directorate of education (S), with the additional director (valley) and the additional director (hills) of the directorate designated as the nodal officers in respect of the schools in valley and hill districts respectively.
Consequently, district magistrate and chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority, Senapati district, Mamoni Doley, issued another order temporarily closing all schools under the revenue jurisdiction of Senapati sub-division on June 2 and 3, 2025 .
The order cited the incessant moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by high-speed .wind since May 29 that caused floods, landslides, and mudslides, resulting in widespread damages, especially in the district headquarters area.
The order also mentioned that the India Meteorological Department (imphal Centre) had issued a Red Alert warning of inclement weather for some districts including Senapati and noted that there are no signs of improvement in weather conditions at present.
While relief and rehabilitation efforts arc underway, the temporary school closure aims to mitigate further damages and prevent loss of life, it specified.
