Mandatorily registrar, birth, death: Chief register

The chief registrar of
Births & Deaths of the Directorate of Health Services,
Manipur has urged the people
of the state to ensure registration of every birth and death.
A leaflet issued by the directorate emphasised the importance of birth registration
by mentioning several points
such as providing first legal
identity proofs like birth certificate, Aadhaar card, ration
card, voter card, employment
card, marriage registration,
various benefits under Social
Welfare & Health Department,
and proof of age to help protect each child from any kind
of violence, abuses and exploitation like cases of early
marriage and child labour.
Other benefits of birth registration highlighted in the
leaflet include inheritance
of property rights for women
in the family, protection of
migrants, refugee children
who have been separated from
their families, trafficking and
other illegal adoption cases.
Registering the name of a
still birth and death registration will provide the government with the main sources of
accurate information on mortality rate, causes of its death,
allowing it to make proper
health planning.
Things like
death registration will surely
serve as a legal record required
for any kind of settlement of
inheritance, insurance claims
and benefit schemes under
various departments, the
leaflet elaborates.
Registration in valley disricts for institutional births
and deaths in public health
facility, one could register at
the respective place of occurrence of the event.
In case of
births and deaths at home/
private hospitals/in transit
for urban municipality areas,
it has to be registered at the
registration units concerned
under MAHUD.
For births and
deaths at home/ private hospitals/in transit for rural Nagar
Panchayat areas, it has to be
registered at the registration
units concerned under RD & PR, it explains.
Likewise for births and
deaths at hill district headquarters, one can register
at the office of the medical
superintendent of district
hospital irrespective of the
place of occurrence of the
event.
In case of birth and
death beyond hill district
headquarters, registration
can be done at the office of
the MO in-charge of the CHC/
PHC concerned, the leaflet
further reads, while urging
the citizens of the state to avail
the facilities as mentioned
by the Directorate of Health
Services, Manipur.
