IAG opens 'Mandalay in Imphal' exhibition

Imphal Art Gallery (IAG), Kwakeithel on Sunday opened its new art exhibition, 'Mandalay in Imphal', as a fundraiser for victims of the recent earthquake in Myanmar.
In a release, IAG curator and director Robin Wahengbam informed ' that the exhibition will feature 46 paintings by the Mandalay Art Club and will showcase a total of about 100 paintings over the course of more than a week.
This initiative follows the notable milestone of November 21, 2013, when the first international flight from Myanmar landed at Tulihal International Airport, Imphal.
The Golden Myanmar Airlines aircraft brought over 100 participants for the annual Sangai Festival, in line with India's Look East policy, recounted Robin, adding that previously, approximately 200 paintings by artists from Myanmar's Mandalay Art Club were displayed at the Nupi Lal Complex as part of the festival.
IAG further conveyed that for the on-going exhibition, it has selected around 100 paintings from the previous collection to raise funds for the recent earthquake in Myanmar that rendered many homeless.
All proceeds from the sale of paintings will be directed to a relief fund designated for those affected in Myanmar.
The gallery is open every day (except on Mondays) from 4 pm to 7 pm, it said.
