Imphal, April 23 2024:
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has extended support to the ongoing protest led by students of Manipur University (MU), pledging solidarity and endorsing all future demonstrations aimed at addressing pressing concerns within the institution.
In a statement, KSA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the demands raised by the students of Manipur University.
The association also announced its intention to launch own stir to amplify the collective voice of the student community.
Expressing solidarity with the students, the KSA urged all students and student bodies to unite in their efforts to effect meaningful change within the university.
The statement also strongly condemned the allegations levelled against KSA and denounced the submission of a complaint letter to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) by the head of the Manipuri Department after they (KSA) tried to enquire about accusations of corrupt practices within the department.
KSA highlighted the importance of upholding professional ethics in academia and criticised the conduct of certain faculty members, particularly the Head of the Department (HoD), for allegedly engaging in corrupt practices.
The association cited instances of irregularities, including discrepancies in the dates of official documents and questionable recruitment processes, as evidence of malpractice within the university.
According to the KSA, the appointment of retired teachers through service extension and the utilisation of daily-waged staff have further exacerbated the challenges facing Manipur University.
The association called for expedited investigations by independent bodies, including a CBI inquiry into Security recruitment, to address the systemic issues plaguing the institution.
Asserting that the university's reputation is at stake, KS A emphasised the need for swift action to restore integrity and transparency in administrative processes.
The statement concluded with a commitment to supporting protests organized by students and relevant stakeholders until tangible reforms are implemented.
