Imphal, April 23 2024: The 133rd Khongjom Day was observed widely across the State with tributes being offered to honour the courageous Manipuri ancestors who laid down their lives at the Battle of Khongjom, 1891 .

In this connection, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) in association with Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) paid fitting tributes at the memorial site of Paona Brajabashi at Cheiraoching today.

Speaking on the occasion, Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, president, AMUCO recalled the valor, wit and determination of the Manipuri warriors at the battlefield in Khongjom as well as numerous other battle fronts.

He stated that the Meitei warriors were able to display these traits during wartime because they prioritized their land and community and respect for others.

Even in the midst of the ruin brought on by the defeat in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891 and the Seven years' devastation (1819-1825), Manipuris did not turn on their own blood.

In order to combat the elements attempting to disintegrate the State, people should be able to distinguish right from wrong, let go of pride and treat others with respect without turning on each other, said the AMUCO president.

Similarly, the Board of Trustees, Sharma Arts & Crafts House (SACH) organised "Khongjom Day Memorial Lecture" to mark the observance of Khongjom Day at SACH Complex Khongman Zone-III East, Imphal, Manipur.

The event was kicked off with the offering of floral tribute to the bravehearts along with the performance of traditional folk songs.

Educationist and playwright Dr Moirangthem Priyobrata Singh presided over the memorial lecture where Khwairakpam Bishwamitra, writer, director and actor spoke on the topic "Role of artists in restoring normalcy in Manipur" .

Cultural activist and lyricist Loitongbam Brajamohon tackled the subject "Role of lyricists in bringing inner peace" while noted director and lyricist Romi Meitei spoke about "Role of artists in uniting a nation".

Addressing the gathering, B Banamali Sharma, director and secretary, SACH stated that Khongjom Day celebration is not only observed across the State but also beyond it.

He added that the memorial lecture was organised to discuss the role and contribution of artists amidst the current restive situation prevailing in Manipur.

In addition, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Manipur observed Khongjom Day at different places by conducting various programmes.

ABVP Manipur conducted a debate competition at CIPET Imphal on the topic "Artificial Intelligence is a threat to Mankind" on the occasion of Khongjom Day.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from around 20 students.

Elangbam Jemson Singh clinched the top position followed by Langamba Yumnam and K Sonali Chanu bagging the 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Distinguished speakers, including NIT Professor Aheibam Dinamani Singh shed light on the complexities of AI, while esteemed judges from various ABVP units, including Professor Saratchandra Singh MTU, Assistant Professor Santosh Singh and Dr Urmika Maibam, evaluated the participants' arguments with keen attention.

ABVP State vice president Professor Dinamani Aheibam also attended the event.

Moreover, under the banner of SFS (Students For Seva), a blood donation drive was hosted at JNIMS Imphal.

On the occasion of Khongjom Day, the Thoubal Unit of ABVP gathered to pay heartfelt homage to the brave patriots of Manipur who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom.

Led by RK Rabichandra Singh, Vibhag Organising Secretary and CWC Member, the Unit observed the day by offering floral tributes at memorial sites, symbolizing reverence and gratitude towards the valorous souls who laid down their lives in defense of the motherland.

Meanwhile, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) also organised the 133rd Khongjom Day celebration at its head office today with the offering of floral tributes.

The Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) conducted a Khongjom War memorial service at Irawat Bhavan with the attendance of State secretary L Thoiren Singh, former State secretary L Sotinkumar Singh, assistant secretary N Singhajit Singh among others.

Lastly, All India Student Federation (AISF), Manipur also observed Khongjom Day and paid fitting tributes to the undeterred bravehearts.
