Mukti Project, Senapati cops conduct consultative workshop

Senapati district police in collaboration with Project Mukti organised a one-day consultative workshop for law enforcement agencies, service providers and NGOs at the conference hall of SP Senapati office oh Wednesday to effectively address child safety and human trafficking.
A total of 41 key stakeholders including additional SP Senapati, investigation officers and representatives of NGOs, Child Care Institutions and Special Adoption Agency, Senapati District Women's Association, Senapati District Students' Association, CWC, DCPU, and the One-stop Crisis Centre, attended the workshop.
In his key note address, Senapati SP Anupam emphasised the collective responsibility in child protection and combating human trafficking while highlighting the rise in cases of missing children and abuse of women in the district over the past one year.
The SP expressed hope that the workshop would help raise awareness and create a child-friendly environment within the district.
The keynote address was followed by a panel discussion featuring four distinguished panellists namely MANEDA director Peter Rangnamei, Senapati additional SP Thangkhochon Haokip, public prosecutor (District & Sessions Court, Senapati) Koshia Mao and Senapati DCPO Chingpai Rangnamei.
Peter Rangnamei deliberated on importance of intervening in cases of child sexual abuse and human trafficking as Thangkhochon Haokip dwelt on legal provisions within the Indian Judiciary system, Koshia Mao focused on POCSO cases in the context of Senapati district and Chingpai Rangnamei on the services available under Mission Vatsalya.
Three decisions were unanimously adopt during the workshop including timely report of crimes against women and children to relevant authorities and non-settlement through customary laws.
Attendees were made aware of the need to maximize the effective use of available services for the victims and follow-up meetings twice every year.
The workshop underscored the necessity for inter-organizational and inter-departmental collaboration to ensure the safety and protection of children and to combat human trafficking in Senapati district.
A similar programme to sensitise journalists on rights based reporting particularly on incident of child sexual abuse and human trafficking was held at 3D Hotel, Senapati.
Different journalists working in the district attended the programme.
