Process on to set up cancer institute: Health Minister

Considering the increasing number of cancer cases, the state government has taken up steps for setting up a cancer institute in the state at the earliest, informed health and family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan.
The minister was speaking during a breast cancer awareness programme entitled "Close Care Gap 365" organised by Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre at JNIMS on Thursday.
Dr Ranjan further stated that the state government under the leadership of chief minister N Biren has taken up step for setting up a cancer institute in Manipur for treating cancer patients considering the increasing number of cancer patients in the state.
He also said that a number of people are going outside the state to get treatment for cancer.
The minister went on to say that under the chief minister's health for all scheme, people have got the opportunity to get tested and diagnosed for all kinds of diseases at early stage.
We should take this opportunity and get tested for any disease we suspect and get early treatment, he stressed.
The minister also said that since peace is gradually returning in Manipur and the government has started taking up various development activities, we should all come together and help develop Manipur.
Karkinos Manipur unit senior consultant Dr Y Indibor said that one can understand how a person develops breast cancer only after getting aware of the said subject.
If one suspects of contracting the disease, then the individual should get tested immediately as early diagnosis can save one's precious life.
He also informed that 1 out of every 8 women are suffering from breast cancer.
Therefore, instead of concealing the disease, it is better to consult a doctor and get treated at the earliest and save oneself.
Breast cancer patients were provided with gifts at the function which was also attended by Karkinos funder Dr R Venkataraman, Karkinos Manipur unit director CEO GS Moirangthem and Water Aid India political and technical support director Bishwanath.
