Jt Dir stresses promotion of handloom & handicraft sector

Asserting that promoting handloom and handicraft can boost the state's economy, handloom and handicraft's joint director E Jiten has called for developing the sector for a better society.
He was speaking as chief guest of the closing ceremony of a 50-day training programme for human resource bank - 2023 organised by Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (MHHDC) Limited at the Handloom and Handicraft Design Extension Centre, Porompat on Tuesday.
MHHDCL general manager Th Basanta presided over the function while handloom and textiles assistant director (design) Th Sundari attended as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Jiten pointed out that there are plenty of opportunities in the handloom and handicraft sector in the state.
Tapping these vast resources can be a major contribution to the state's economy, he said while urging the public to play their part in boosting the state's economy.
Informing that the government has been taking up different initiatives in this regard, the joint director said that the training programme was organised as part of the initiatives to enhance skill of the people.
He also informed that there is significant demand for state's handloom and handicraft products in other states with the only impediment being lack of skilled workers consequently leading to supply shortage.
Increasing skilled manpower is a must in order to meet the demand and such training programme is crucial, he added.
Altogether 34 people participated in the training.
Certificates and special award for select trainees were distributed at the event.
