World Diabetes Day observed

As done across the globe, World Diabetes Day was observed by various organisations in different parts of the state on Tuesday.
Manipur Heart Care Society under the aegis of Otsira Genetica Company observed World Diabetes Day at Khundrakpam Makha Leikai along with organising a free medical camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur Heart Care Society president Dr Ksh Kala cautioned that diabetes affects women and causes more problems to them, and informed out that around 2 million women die of diabetes every year worldwide.
Therefore, we need to remain alert and prevent ourselves from developing the disease by consuming healthy foods and exercising daily, he added.
Dr Kala further informed that cardio-diabetes is common among people who have grown older.
If one has diabetes, he/she also suffers from heart diseases.
The number of diabetics is also increasing rapidly in the state, resulting in untimely death of many people, he maintained.
Many people were provided health care facilities during the free health camp, which also provided service for testing BP, blood sugar and ECG.
Meanwhile, World Diabetes Day was organised by District NCD Cell, Imphal West under the aegis of National Programme of Non-Communicable Disease at Awang Wabagai HWC and CHC Khumbong.
The function which was held under the theme "Access to Diabetes Care" was attended by NCD SNO Health Services joint director Dr Y Premchandra and Imphal West CMO Dr L Joykumar as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the function, Dr Premchandra called upon the people to stay fit and healthy by taking healthy foods, and said that the government is conducting screening of diabetes under CHMA and has so far covered altogether 3,94,339 people.
It is suspected that around 15.7 percent of the tested people could have been positive for diabetes, he opined, adding that under the NCD programme, clinics have been opened in all the hospitals, CHC, PHC and HWC where patients are provided free diagnostics and medicines.
As part of the observance, a special health camp and awareness talk was also organised.
