Imphal, May 28 2024:
The 26th Meira Paibi Numit was observed with womenfolk paying floral tributes at the memorial plaque at Tharo Devi Lampak, Khurai Salanthong today.
Organised by the Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee, the event was attended by Dr Ch Sheelaramani, former Dean of School of Humanities, DM University, Soraisam Memcha, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, RR Koireng, president of Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ch Sheelaramani said the contribution of the Meira Paibis in the State is immense and without them there wouldn't have been Manipur.
Manipur at present is a victim of a geopolitical game.
Meira Paibis have been playing important roles in facing all the major issues in the State.
They were fiercely against the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act, she said.
The people of the State, especially women have suffered at the hands of the Central security forces under AFSPA.
Women have faced sexual assault, rape, she added.
Commenting on the ongoing conflict, Sheelaramani said the Meira Paibis have been at the forefront facing challenges that have threatened Manipur's integrity.
While the people have contributed much to the Nation building processes and brought laurels to the country in many fields, India Government has ignored the plight of the Manipuris and failed to recognise their contributions, she said.
She rejected and condemned Amit Shah's recent statement which claimed that the ongoing violent conflict isn't a terrorist aggression but a conflict due to trust deficit between communities.
If only Manipur had remained a sovereign kingdom, it would never have faced the problems it is facing today, she added.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba president S Memcha said the Meira Paibis in all localities should unite as one to successfully face all challenges.
She said the conflict has not ended even after a year.
She appealed to the Government and all concerned to end the conflict and bring about peace in Manipur.
