Ukhrul, July 21 2009:
The 48-hour long total bandh imposed by organisations of Ukhrul district under the aegis of UNC, ANSAM, NWUM and NPMHR since 5 am yesterday virtually brought normal life here to a stand still.
|
During the bandh, which will conclude at 5 am tomorrow, all taxi and bus services as well as other vehicles, both public and private, stayed off the road.
All the commercial centres, market places, Govt offices and institutions in the district also remained shut for the second consecutive day today.
However, the conduct of Old Course examination of HSLC was exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Speaking to this correspondent, TMNL president Zangyo Varam said that the bandh was called against the State Cabinet decision to deploy Commando Units and IRB companies in all the five hill districts of Manipur.
By and large, the bandh was peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident.
The bandh was also total in Chandel district.
With bandh supporters burning tyres on the road and blocking traffic at several points, there was no vehicular traffic along Imphal-Moreh route.
