The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) have withdrawn the boycott on publishing the civic action programme-related stories of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) .
Certain agreement was reached during a meeting of AMWJU, EGM and CRPF team led by Group Centre, CRPF, DIG PK Nair held at Manipur Press Club on October 13, said AMWJU and EGM in a joint statement issued today.
Saying that the DIG PK Nair tendered an apology for the excesses meted out against the journalists during the meeting, AMWJU and EGM continued that the top brass of the CRPF also assured to work on building good relations with the media.
The joint statement conveyed that the decision to withdraw the boycott on CRPF and RAF was taken after convening another meeting of AMWJU functionaries and Editors today.
It may be mentioned that AMWJU general secretary A Jiten, games and sports secretary M Khagemba and member Ibungo Laishram were threatened by the RAF personnel while the journalists were returning home on June 16 .
Another member of AMWJU Haobam Pravinkumar was also assaulted by RAF personnel on June 23 at Khurai while the house of the internal auditor of the Union Nabakumar Khagokpam at Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai was vandalised on the same day.
