Imphal, June 08 2025: Demanding immediate release of Arambai Tenggol fighting commander Asem Kanan and four other volunteers arrested by security forces, members of the Kwakeithel Meira Paibi Apunba Lup today staged a sit-in-protest at the premises of Lainingthou Nongshaba, Kwakeithel.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, Kwakeithel Meira Paibi Apunba Lup president Soubam Sobita said that Manipur could have been destroyed had there been no Arambai Tenggol.

It was the Arambai Tenggol who protected Manipur in the face of the relentless and sustained attack launched by Kukis on May 3, 2023, she said.

Volunteers of the Arambai Tenggol were also actively in fescue and evacuation operations during the recent flood, she said.

The arrest of five Arambai Tenggol volunteers including Asem Kanan at such a juncture is nothing but inviting more trouble and turbulence, Sobita said.

She then demanded immediate release of all the five arrested AT volunteers.

On the other hand, the failure of the elected MLAs to form a popular Government is a matter of grave concern, she remarked.

She asserted that the MLAs should form a Government by June 10.A similar protest demonstration demanding the release of the arrested AT members was also staged at Moirangpurel Phuramakhong, Imphal East.

On the other hand, the Kanglei Mothers Movement has urged all the MLAs to form a popular Government by 6 pm of June 10 .

If the MLAs cannot form a Government, they must never come back to Manipur, it said.

The Kanglei Mothers Movement has also demanded transfer of IPS Gaurav Dogra from Manipur.
