Classical dance fest to mark Swami Damodara birthday

In connection with the 76th Vyasa Pujah Festival (birth anniversary) of BS Damodara Swami Srila Sripada which falls on December 8, an international classical dance festival christened Indiclad 2013 would be held at Imphal.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, chairman of the organising committee Ajit Das said that one unique feature of the international dance festival is presentation of Manipuri classical dance (Ras) by foreign artistes.
Renowned Odissi dance exponent Sita from France would also perform at the festival.
In addition, Tamanna Rahaman from Bangladesh would perform Ras dance.
Tamanna has already arrived here with her three students.
Even though they are Muslims, they are accomplished artistes of Manipuri classical dance.
Tamanna is a professional dancer who has performed in different countries across the world taking the message of peace and friendship, said Ajit Das.
The international classical dance festival is being jointly organised by the Ranganiketan Manipur Cultural Arts Troupe and Srila Sripada Educational Foundation.
This is the second such festival.
The first one was held in 2010.The festival is being organised with the primary objective of promoting the traditional Indian performing arts and spread the message of peace and harmony, Ajit Das said.
Tamanna Rahaman who was also present at the press meet said that she would be most privileged when she performs Ras dance in Manipur, the birth place of the famous classical dance form.
She learnt Manipur classical dance from one Shantibala, a Manipuri dance teacher living in Bangladesh.
After obtaining Master Degree from Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta, Tamanna is currently running a dance school called Nrityam at Dhaka.
