Ukhrul, June 05 2014:
A 35 year old man was beaten to death at Shangshak Phunghon village in Ukhrul district on the charge that he was stealing GI Pipes yesterday at about 6.30 am.
A reliable source said that the deceased belonged to Shangchin village and identified him as one RK Kenneth son of Ningtam.
The deceased along with seven others were stealing 40 GI Pipes at Shangshak Phunghon and loading them atop a truck when they were caught by the villagers and beaten up.
The GI Pipes were meant for supplying drinking water to the village.
Two of them managed to escape while the rest have been rounded up by the villagers, said the source.
The GI Pipes were supplied under a project of the NLCPR to supply drinking water to the village.
No case has been registered with the police.
With the intervention of the Tangkhul Zingsho Longphang, process is underway to try the case according to Tangkhul customary law, said the source.
