'Land encroachment' rattles Fire Service staff

Alleged land encroachment coupled with threat and intimidation has rattled the staff of Ukhrul Fire Sub- Station.
The Officer in-Charge of Ukhrul Fire Sub-Station submitted a complaint to the SDO, Ukhrul Block on April 30 in connection with the encroachment of land within the Fire Sub-Station area by an individual.
The complaint was also forwarded to the Director of Manipur Fire Service, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police concerned and Officer in-Charge of Ukhrul police station but nothing has been done so far to resolve the issue.
This correspondent reported that one Pr Ringo of Khamasom village brought an excavator today and started earthwork at the Fire Sub-Station premises located at Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
It is further reported that the area where the earthwork has begun belongs to the Fire Sub-Station but the person continued to dig the earth despite the appeal by the staff to settle the land dispute first.
According to reliable sources, the Civil Judge of Senior Division Ukhrul had in 2017 passed an order for "both the parties to maintain status quo over the land dispute till the final disposal of the case.
Despite the Court order, Pr Ringo of Khamasom village started the earthwork at Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
The police were yet to respond and the staff were still waiting for them till the time of filing this report.
