CM assures swift action against 'muscle cop'

Many have come out strongly against the brutal assault of a media person by the police.
Decrying the incident, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild, Manipur (EGM) have resolved to halt publishing any news related to Manipur police henceforth.
Additionally, AMWJU and EGM have demanded dismissal of the SI who carried out the assault within 48 hours.
The two have also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding commission of an inquiry committee for immediate investigation, issuance of strict instructions to State police while discharging their duty and befitting action against the police officer involved.
On being presented the story, Chief Minister N Biren assured swift action against the erring police official within 24 hours.
He also condemned the police action of firing towards the relief camp as well as the trauma caused to the young children inside the school.
The memorandum also called upon the journalists fraternity to take out a rally and demanded visible action within 48 hours.
Other organizations which have conveyed strong condemnation of the incident and demanded strict action include Thoubal District Working Journalist Union, All Bishnupur District Working Journalist Union, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India, Kakching District Journalists' Association, Ching Tam Social Workers' Union, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur and All Manipur Muslim Organisations' Co-ordinating Committee.
Meanwhile, the Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand has condemned excessive police action which caused distress to the students of Eastern Ideal School Akampat, S Chaoba Memorial School Singjamei with many of them fainting.
Additionally, M Thoiba, president, Meetei Council Moreh has strongly denounced today's outrageous police action on the IDPs of Akampat Relief Camp.
