BJP backs MLAs' stand to form popular Govt

BJP Manipur Pradesh has expressed support to the party MLAs' collective decision to form a popular Government.
Close on the heels of the meeting held on Friday evening at the official quarters of MLA Th Biswajit at Sanjenthong where 25 BJP MLAs deliberated on the formation of a popular Government in place of the existing President's Rule, the BJP MLAs held another meeting at the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek today with BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda.
Representing all the 25 MLAs who attended the meeting held yesterday, 14 MLAs participated in today's meeting which started at 11 am and went on till around 12.30 pm.
As agreed at the meeting held at Biswajit's place yesterday, 14 MLAs namely; Y Khemchand (Singjamei), Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur), Karam Shyam (Langthabal), Paonam Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha), Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband), T Robindro (Thanga), Kh Ibomcha (Lamlai), S Premchandra (Kumbi), Dinganglung Panmei (Nungba), Dr S Ranjan (Konthoujam), Kh Raghumani (Uripok), S Kunjakeshor (Patsoi), Dr U Deben (Wabagai) and Dr Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam) participated in the meeting held today.
The meeting was also participated by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda, vice-president Ch Chidananda and general secretary L Deben.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, A Sharda said that each and every BJP has his/her role in the formation of a popular Government and they are united on forming a popular Government.
In line with the people's wish, BJP Manipur Pradesh as well as all its MLAs have a common intention to form a popular Government.
Sharda claimed that BJP Manipur Pradesh and its MLAs have been working at their best level to install a popular Government in the State at the earliest.
BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Ch Chidananda said that the closed door meeting deliberated on the current security and political situation in Manipur.
The meeting discussed mechanisms to expedite the peace process, restore normalcy and bring a solution to the protracted crisis, he said.
The meeting also examined the current law and order situation under the President's Rule.
The 14 BJP MLAs raised a proposal to inform the party's Central leadership as well as the Central Government about the common desire of the BJP MLAs and the people to install a popular Government in the State, and the proposal was discussed at length at the meeting, Chidananda said.
BJP Manipur Pradesh has taken note of the meeting held by 25 BJP MLAs on Friday and the decisions adopted thereat.
This development would be intimated to the BJP high command in clear terms, Chidananda said.
The BJP MLAs told the meeting that a delegation representing them would go to New Delhi soon and urge the BJP Central leadership to work out a solution to the Manipur crisis, he said.
Paonam Brojen said that the meeting discussed sending a delegation to New Delhi who would exert pressure on the BJP Central leadership to install a popular Government in Manipur at the earliest.
He asserted that there is no difference among the BJP MLAs on the formation of a popular Government and went on to claim that all the BJP MLAs attended the meeting held yesterday with the exception of a few MLAs who are currently abroad and at Delhi.
The meeting held today discussed sending a proposal to the Centre through BJP Manipur Pradesh for formation of a popular Government in the State.
Even if the seven BJP MLAs belonging to the Kuki community find it difficult to come to Imphal at the moment, the remaining 30 MLAs of the party are united on forming a popular Government, Brojen said.
With the NPP and NPF MLAs too desirous of forming a popular Government, as many as 44 MLAs are united on forming a popular Government, he said.
On being asked when a popular Government would be formed in the State, Kh Ibomcha said that the exact time of forming a popular Government depends on the Centre.
