Imphal, August 18 2015:
With the primary objective of bringing reconciliation between the two communities who had a violent confrontation today at Moreh, a joint team of AMUCO, KIM and UCM would go to Moreh tomorrow and hold a meeting with leaders of different communities.
Speaking to media persons at the Lamphelpat office of UCM this afternoon, the three apex civil organisations vehemently condemned the clash.
KIM president Thangkho-sei Haokip said that KIM always condemns all forms of violence.
Expressing solidarity to the difficulties faced by a particular community at Moreh, Thangkhosei said that they would go to Moreh tomorrow and make all efforts to bring reconciliation between the
groups.
AMUCO vice-president Ph Deban said the violent confrontation that broke out in the course of a mass rally held under the aegis of JCILPS at Moreh was a tragedy for all the people of Manipur.
Noting that Moreh is inhabited by different communities, Deban highlighted the need on the part of the majority community to consolidate the minority communities.
The Government should keep a sharp vigil on the prevailing situation at the border town.
UCM president Elangbam Johnson stated that the demand for enforcement of ILPS or similar mechanism in the State is not restricted to a single community.
It encompasses all the communities of Manipur.
Johnson maintained that the confrontation was instigated by some individuals with vested interests.
Any misunderstanding on the issue of ILPS can be thrashed out through dialogue.
He also appealed to all the communities not to go by rumours but maintain calm.
