Imphal, August 18 2015:
All Opposition MLAs are ready to support and pass any Bill introduced by the State Government which is acceptable to the people of Manipur and permissible under the Constitution of India, according to AITC MLA Dr I Ibohalbi.
Ibohalbi has also appealed to both the State Government and JCILPS to sit together and bring an understanding so that Bill similar to ILPS can be tabled and passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly at the earliest.
Out of the State's total geographical area, only 8 per cent remains as non-scheduled area.
As such, indigenous people living in this small non-scheduled area are under immense threat of being wiped out completely.
Given this harsh reality, all the people ought to support the ongoing movement for protection of indigenous people.
Talking about the Naga peace accord, Dr Ibohalbi asserted that the accord should not be interpreted as Naga accord rather it should be treated as an accord between Government of India and NSCN-IM.
The way the accord was signed looks it was pre-planned and this has created serious anxiety and apprehension among the people of Manipur.
If the peace accord has anything about Naga integration, it is more or less similar to the Bangkok Agreement of 2001.As such, all the people should remain wary.
Government of India as well as NSCN-IM should not forget the massive uprising of June, 2001.Any peace accord signed between Government of India and NSCN-IM is always welcomed but NSCN-IM is not the lone insurgent group operating in the region.
Both Government of India and NSCN-IM should always keep in mind that Manipuri people would not tolerate any disturbance to the territorial integrity and administrative integrity in any attempt to appease a particular rebel group, Dr Ibohalbi asserted.
