Kangpokpi, July 29 2025:
The three-month tailoring course conducted under Shakti Sadan Scheme by Institute for Community Action and Resource Development (ICARD) concluded at ICARD Shakti Sadan Home, Keithelmanbi, Champhai sub-division on Tuesday.
On behalf of deputy commissioner Mahesh Chaudhary, Kangpokpi additional deputy commissioner N Shokhongam Baite attended the valedictory ceremony held in the presence of Champhai sub-divisional officer and District Social Welfare officer in-charge Lamminlal Simte and Saitu SDO Paotinsei Kipgen.
A total of 39 participants, who successfully completed the training and examination, were awarded certificates and financial assistance during the programme.
Additionally, five top-performing trainees were presented with sewing machines to help them embark on self-sustaining livelihoods.
ICARD functionaries expressed gratitude to the district administration for the support and highlighted the organisation's mission to empower women through vocational training.
Expressing regret that only five of the trainees could be provided with sewing machines due to limited resources, the functionaries assured to expand their reach and conduct similar training programmes in the days ahead.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Shokhongam underscored the importance of shifting societal mind-sets.
He further said that government schemes like Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao are vital, but traditional biases that favour sons over daughters must also be dismantled.
Women must be given equal opportunity to explore every field to realise the collective objective for a progressive society, he stressed.
The ADC also announced on behalf of DC Mahesh Chaudhary that the district administration would provide five additional sewing machines in support of ICARD's initiative.
