Court jails rape accused for 3 months

Imphal, May 22 2024:
The court of CJM, Kangpokpi on Wednesday sent Kangba Moses, who was arrested by police on May 17 on the charge of sexual assault and harassment of a girl student, to judicial custody for three months.
Amidst strong protest by large number of women demanding befitting punishment, a police team produced Kangba Moses before the court with prayer for judicial remand.
After perusing the IO's report, the court granted the remand prayer and sent arrested Kangba Moses to three months judicial custody.
On getting report that Kangba Moses would be produced before the court, large number of women gathered in front of the court and staged protest holding placards and shouting slogans some of which read 'Justice delayed is justice denied', 'No justice, no peace','Respect women', 'Guilty to be punished', 'We trust the law', 'Stop harassing women' and 'Girls are not play toys'.
Mao Naga Women Welfare Association general secretary Kaisa, who took part the protest, strongly condemned the incident and demanded punishment to all those involved in the incident.
Senapati District Women Association vice president DD Elizabeth also said that the association Shares sorrow of the victim and assured the association will extend all possible help in ensuring justice to the victim.
