Jiribam, June 19 2024:
Displaced residents from various Meetei villages in Borobekra sub-division of Jiribam district find themselves in dire straits as their hopes of assistance from the state security forces remain unmet.
Seeking refuge at Borobekra police station, these displaced individuals are enduring harsh conditions with diminishing optimism.
Earlier this month, the displaced Meetei residents anticipated relief upon hearing news of the police and commando reinforcements heading towards Jiribam.
However, two weeks have passed since their arrival at the police station, yet their plights continue without any substantial government intervention.
The disp laced people could not have access to Jiribam town.
The situation is particularly distressing for the elderly, women, and children as they are crammed in a barrack amidst the CRPF personnel quarters.
Men are putting up at the verandas without any space for even stretching their legs, enduring discomfort and exposure to rain without adequate shelter or basic necessities like proper clothing and bedding materials.
Birmohon, one of the displaced people, said that they were hopeful of getting security deployment in their area, reconstruction of their homes, and resettlement in a safe environment upon hearing news' of additional state force arriving in the district.
But all their hopes have been lost as their expectations are yet to materialise.
Their conditions are further exacerbated by deteriorating health conditions without access to medical facilities.
The displaced people also criticised chief minister N Biren for failing to ensure the safety and welfare of these displaced residents, while questioning the indifference of the government to their hardships.
They also called upon Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Meira Paibi groups, and the public to highlight their plights to the government and extend support to them.
They also demanded the establishment of-a police outpost with sufficient personnel near Lamtai Khunou to ensure their security and.
facilitate their return to normalcy.
