Manikanta leads plantation drive at Arapti

Imphal, June 14 2025: Environmental activist Manikanta Mutum launched an environment awareness and tree plantation programme at Ireima Laibung in Arapti Mayai Leikai on Saturday, with support from the Subaltern Upliftment Organisation and Arapti Mayai Leikai Development Association.

As part of the campaign, several tree saplings were planted in the locality with active participation from students and local residents.

Manikanta, who has been planting trees and raising environmental awareness both within and outside the state for the last eight years, urged for constant involvement of local clubs to ensure the saplings are nurtured until they are fully grown.

Renowned singer and actor Shadananda Hamom, who also took part in the programme, called for a united effort to protect the environment, urging people to set aside differences.

While planting trees is important, ensuring their proper growth is what matters the most, he said.

Students of Arapati Junior High School, members of local Meira Paibi Lup, and clubs and organisations also took part in the event, which aimed to promote the importance of environmental conservation at the grassroots level.
