ICOP on Amrit Mahotsav & COVID held

Senapati, March 14 2022:
Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati under Bureau of Outreach Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, on Monday organised a "One-day Integrated Communication & Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav & Covid Appropriate Behaviour" at Mt Everest College, Senapati.
The programme was held with Nongthombam Suran Singh, SDO/BDO, Willong, Senapati district as chief guest and Meithuanlungpou Gonmei, principal, Mt Everest College, Senapati, as guest of honour while Roshan Shagolsem, academic dean, Mt Everest College was special guest.
Dr Ng Peter, district immunization officer, Senapati and Alen Chiru, associate professor (political science), Mt Everest College also attended as resource persons.
In her keynote address, Dr Waribam Urmila, FPO, FOB, Senapati, explained about the programme and how the FOB Senapati spreads awareness about government's various programmes and schemes.
Resource person, Dr Peter highlighted the importance of vaccination to prevent severe form of Covid, while recalling the BCG vaccination mark on the left arms of the people in the olden days to prevent dreaded diseases.
The DIO explained that the Covid vaccine is scientifically proven vaccine to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 disease, adding that there is no vaccine without side effects but with time and proper treatment, side effects are reduced and minimised.
He then appealed to the students to make their parents aware of the need for vaccination in order to be free from the pandemic.
Another resource person, Alen Chiru talked about the Indian freedom strug gle during the colonial rule where many from both the hills and the valley took part in the fight against the British rule for self-governance.
Chief guest Nongthombam Suran Singh said that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which started from August 15, 2021, would continue for 75 weeks and highlighted a series of events to be conducted to commemorate India's 75 years of Independence.
The SDO also asked the students to contribute in their own capacity for the betterment of the nation.
Thang-ta exhibition, magic show and quiz competition were held in the later part of the programme after which the winners of the quiz competition were felicitated with cash prizes.
Addressing media persons, Dr Urmila informed that the department organises publicity programmes for the central government on various topics and various schemes from time to time, depending on the situation.
The day's event started by paying tributes to the unsung heroes who had contributed to the India's freedom struggle.
