Victim condemns police for threatening her family

A victim of an attempted sexual assault has condemned the police for trying to intimidate her family instead of taking action against the accused person.
In a press meet held at Khuman United Clubs and Meira Paibi Association premises in Mayang Imphal on Saturday, the victim re counted that on April 21 at around 9pm, her brother-in law's son, Leishangthem Dhanajoy barged into her home while her husband was away and attempted to sexually assault her.
Despite being four-month pregnant, she fought off Dhanajoy, who beat her up.
Later, his family tried to settle the incident with some money.
However, she refused to budge and hied a report with Thoubal Women police station, but no action was taken up.
Amidst this, some unknown persons beat up Dhanajoy.
The police blamed the incident on her and family, and also threatened them, she eonveyed.
Khuman United Clubs and Meira Paibi Association women secretary Re-bika Leima denounced the act of Thoubal district police against the victim, who hails from Mayang Imphal.
She condemned the police for blaming and intimidating the victim's family instead of arresting the accused.
She appealed to the police to stop such acts immediately and ensure the accused is awarded befitting punishment as per the law of the land.
