Imphal, June 01 2025:
Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) has declared its full support to All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) in opposing the government's "coercive" move to construct border fencing and scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) in Naga areas along the Indo-Myanmar border.
In a, statement issued on Sunday, CNPO said that the border fencing initiative and the rollback of FMR threaten the "very fabric of Naga society", undermining ancestral lands, cultural heritage and the collective identity of Naga people.
The organisation recalled its submission of a memorandum to the Governor on February 12, 2025, outlining the grievances and concerns of Naga people.
On the same day, it organised a mass public rally cum total shutdown in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts to demonstrate the community's firm resolve.
CNPO stated that it has visited the border areas multiple times to protest and halt the ongoing fencing works.
Endorsing ANSAM's 48-hour government office picketing from June 2 in all Naga inhabited hill districts, CNPO called for united protest to demand the halting of border fencing, reinstatement of FMR, and cessation of all logistical support to fencing projects.
CNPO affirmed that the Naga people's rights, culture and identity "will not be compromised" and urged the government to listen to the Naga voice.
