Fire destroys four shops in Sugnu bazaar

Kakching, April 29 2025: At least four shops attached to residential houses were completely destroyed by a fire on Thursday at Sugnu Bazaar Makha Leikai, under the jurisdiction of the Sugnu Police Station.

The owners of the shops are Nandeibam Hemanta Singh (48) s/o N Kironkumar of Sugnu Makha Leikai but currently staying in Singjamei Wangma Pebia Pandit Leikai; Yumnam Roshan (48) s/o Y Thambalsana Devi of Sugnu Thana Leikai; Abujam Sushil Singh (25) s/o A Sarat Singh of Sugnu Makha Leikai; and Khaidem Mangal Singh (45) s/o late Kh Kunjakeshore Singh of Sugnu Makha Leikai.

The shops were rented to Nandeibam Kishan (43) s/o late N Sanajaoba of Sugnu Makha Leikai, Yumnam Roshan (48) s/o Y Thambalsana Devi of Sugnu Thana Leikai, Khaidem Naobi Singh (45) s/o late Kh Nimai Singh of Sugnu Makha Leikai and Khaidem Bijoy Singh (70) s/o late Kh Amundon of Sugnu Makha Leikai.

Upon receiving report of the inferno, personnel from the Sugnu Fire Service, along with Sugnu police and private water tankers, quickly responded to the scene.

They managed to extinguish the fire around 1:35 PM and prevented it from spreading to nearby homes and shops.

While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, it is suspected to have been triggered by electrical short circuit.

The full extent of the damage to property has yet to be determined.
