Imphal, September 21 2024:
As observed every year, Loumee Shinmee Apun Lup (LOUSAL) organised Farmers' Day (Loumee Numit) at farmers' monument in Pungdongbam on Saturday and appealed for disbursal of pending compensation to the farmers.
In a release, LOUSAL informed that floral tributes were paid at the monument and later conducted a meeting.
The meeting was attended by LOUSAL president Laishram Kiranjit, Pungdongbam Khul Development Committee president Khaidem Jugeshwar, Chingkham Debachandra, Thingbaijam Babudhon, Irengbam Jila and Haobam Yaiskul as presidium members.
LOUSAL also called for providing seeds to the farmers timely and allowing cultivation of crops in areas where they failed to cultivate in previous season due to the ongoing conflict in the state.
Subsequent to the demand of LOUSAL for protecting farmlands in the state, the government passed the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014, but could not implement effectively.
So, the government should implement the Act effectively and ensure protection of paddy land and wetlands, the release of LOUSAL said.
Furthermore, it exhorted authorities concerned for ensuring proper irrigation system to enhance productivity and urged the department concerned for taking up initiatives for ushering in an organic and healthy society.
