Village chiefs clarify on PMGSY road report

Imphal, January 19 2023: Apropos the media report dated January 10, published in some dailies, pertaining to construction of PMGSY road from Chamu to Kachouphung, which covers a distance of 30 km, chiefs of villages covered under the said package have asserted that unfounded allegations were made in the said media report.

A release jointly issued by Khayang village headman As Yangkahao, Chamu village, Kamjong headman Wungsihm Kasar and Kacoupung village headman Ds Zimik informed that the work order for construction of PMGSY Road from Chamu to Kachouphung under package No 9202/Stage-11/phase-XI was awarded to one Lungsat Kipgen, special contractor in September, 2019 for a duration of 18 months.

However, the construction could not commence immediately owing to the fact the District Development Co-ordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) on October 17 notified that no work under stage-II should commence until DISHA committee's authorities inspect the works.

Thereafter, the village leaders, authority concerned and representative of the contractor agreed on correction of gradient defects and rectification of alignment.

Upon agreement, the road construction under the said work order commenced effective from January 2022, deploying requisite machineries and equipment.

It is pertinent to mention that the area falling under the said package is a hilly region and the rainy season last from June till November every year allowing just few feasible months to carry out construction works, the joint release pointed out, while maintaining that despite such inconvenience, the construction work of PMGSY road never stopped, though, few days were halted owing to Christmas 2022 and New Year 2022 celebrations.

It further claimed that the allegation published on January 10 in the local dailies is baseless and false.

The implementing department, contractor and sub-contractor are closely co-ordinating with the village chiefs and working together for the successful implementation of PMGSY under the said package.

Moreover, necessary/required machineries, equipment have been utilised and working day in and day out, the joint release added.
