Protests erupt in Imphal as six hostages killed by Kuki militants

Imphal, November 16 2024:
Widespread protests erupted in Imphal on Saturday, following the recent abduction and brutal killing of six individuals, including women and children, reportedly by Kuki militants in Jiribam district.
The discovery of six bodies believed to be those missing from the Jiribam district, floating in Jiri River, sent shockwaves throughout the State.
The incident triggered widespread outrage, with locals condemning the escalating violence and Government inaction.
A sit-in protest was staged at Awang Naorem Leikai Sofa Leirak by Women Development Society (WDS), Meira Paibi Awang Naorem Leikai decrying the gruesome killing of women and children.
Hundreds of people from Soibam Leikai and Nongmeibung areas also took to the streets to protest the tragic incident.
A sit-in was also staged at Soibam Leikai Old Checkon Bridge, jointly organised by Soibam Leikai Chaokhat Khongthang Meira Paibi Lup and Citizens' Club Soibam Leikai.
Similar protests were also organised by Nongmeibung Apunba Meira Paibi, Nongmeibung Students Union Club, Konung Mamang Meira Paibi and Angok Leikai Meira Paibi at various places.
The protestors expressed profound grief, demanding justice for the victims and highlighting their anguish over the incident.
They accused the Manipur Government and security forces of failing to protect their citizens and demanded action against the alleged perpetrators.
