Imphal, June 14 2025:
All Manipur Trade Union Councils expressed hope for setting up of labour court finally in Manipur to adjudicate and strengthen labour laws in the state.
In a release, AMTUC joint secretary Koijam Tomba Singh lauded Labour Department deputy labour commissioner Tanushree Naorem for sending a proposal to state government for setting up of one or more labour courts in the state.
Her efforts are valuable gift to the labours and workers' community, he said, while praising the commissioner and her subordinate staffers.
The working class in the state is severely impacted by persistent local problems, recurring natural disasters, and Covid-19 pandemic.
Compounding these hardships, principal employers and companies with over 100 employees have repeatedly violated labour laws, including unlawful retrenchments, failure to pay wages on time, and neglect of social security and service protections.
Establishing a labour court would provide workers with a vital forum to challenge these violations and seek justice.
He then appealed to State Secretariat Labour department to support the right initiative of deputy labour commissioner.
