12 cadres of various UG groups arrested

Imphal, July 12 2025: Joint security forces arrested 12 individuals linked to various proscribed underground organisations in a series of coordinated operations across the valley districts of the state on July 10 and 11, according to a statement from the police control room.

On July 11, two cadres of the proscribed SOREPA were rounded up from Umathel area under Waikhong police station in Kakching district.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sharung-bam Nanda alias Jetli (49) and Laishram Angouba Meitei alias Liklai (46), both residents of Kakching Khunnou Umathel Awang Leikai.

Two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

In a separate operation at Maharabi under Sekmai PS in Imphal West, security forces apprehended Chingakham Sanjoy Singh alias Eremba (42) of Kadangband Part-2 Awang Leikai.

The arrested individual, a cadre of a banned underground organisation, had undergone 45 days of basic military training in Myanmar before returning to Manipur.

One wallet containing an Aadhaar card and a PAN card was recovered from him.

On the same day, a cadre of KCP (Apunba), identified as Khaidem Sanajaoba Meitei alias Ibobi (24) of Itham Maning Leikai in Imphal East, was arrested from Moirangpurel Khunnou near Itham Bridge under Maphou Dam PS.

One mobile phone was seized from his possession.

Two cadres of KCP (Taibangnganba) were also arrested on July 11 .

Chandam Rabichandra alias Ibom-cha Singh (28) of Uyumpok Awang Leikai was picked up from Keibi Khullen village in Imphal East for allegedly extorting funds from the public and businesses.

From him, one mobile phone with a SIM card was recovered.

In a separate raid in Phumlou Mamang Leikai, Imphal West, Wangkhem Tomba Singh alias Wanglem (18) was arrested, and one mobile phone was recovered.

One cadre of PREPAK (PRO), identified as Leishanthem Athoiba alias Leishang (21) of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai, was arrested from Wabagai area under Hiyanglam PS in Kakching district.

He had undergone basic military training in Myanmar.

A mobile phone was seized from him.

Earlier on July 10, three cadres of KCP (PWG) were arrested for their involvement in extortion and threats to the public, shopkeepers and bank employees.

Thoudam Chaothoi Meitei alias Anthony alias Loijing (41) was arrested from Kameng Awang Leikai in Imphal West.

Laishram Beni Singh alias Khutheiba Khuman alias Khingba (43) of Yaiskul Police Lane and Ningthoujam Yamba Singh alias Boy alias Sanayamba (43) of Keirao Bitra Awang Leikai.

were rounded up from their respective residences.

Security forces recovered eight mobile phones, three Aadhaar cards, one wallet and Rs 220 in cash.

Also on July 10, Warepam Shanta Singh (42) of Kanglatongbi Bazar, Imphal West, was arrested for illegal possession of arms and ammunition.

Recovered items included a 9mm pistol with one magazine, six rounds of 9mm ammunition and a mobile phone with a SIM card.
